POWWR Energy Barometer Shows UK Businesses Are Consuming Less Energy
[Manchester, 29th July 2025] – POWWR, a respected energy software provider, today releases its seventh Quarterly Energy Barometer Report, revealing that the average UK businesses is using significantly less energy. The average UK business now consumes just over 21 MwH of energy a year. This is 3.45% less than last quarter and 7.86% less than the same period in 2024.
The reduction in energy usage has been most significant among very small businesses, with their energy usage decreasing by over 4%. “The drop in energy usage could be due to the mild weather within the quarter seen across much of the UK. However, it also points to UK businesses being more environmentally aware than ever before,” explains Matt Tormollen, CEO, POWWR.
In more good news, the Quarterly Energy Barometer Report shows that UK businesses are paying 4% less for their electricity than they were last quarter (down from £4863 to £4652 per annum) and 10% less than they were last year. Businesses in North Wales have seen the biggest drop in their bills (by 11%), followed by West Midlands (10%), and South Wales (9%). Despite this drop, however, businesses in North Wales continue to pay the most for their energy. At £5446 it is around a third more than businesses in the North East of England pay (£4056).
For those businesses looking to reduce their spend by switching suppliers, there appears to be very little difference currently between switching suppliers to staying with an incumbent. However, the prices this quarter if a business was to select a new supplier are 4% lower than last quarter, indicating the competitiveness and good deals available in the market right now. It is something we would expect to continue to be the case next quarter too.
The seventh POWWR Quarterly Energy Barometer Report provides valuable insight into just how much energy UK businesses are consuming and what they are paying for it. The report is based upon over 540,000 separate data points covering a variety of businesses, from boutique start-ups to large industrial and commercial organisations.
“Once again, the POWWR Energy Barometer Report paints a positive picture for the UK energy market. Average bills continue to go down; average energy usage has reduced by almost 8% year on year; and there are increasingly deals to be had for those willing to put in the leg work. The future is bright,” adds Tormollen.
