Background to Requirement

POWWR is at an incredibly exciting time in its evolution and due to the retirement of the current post-holder we are seeking a CFO to redefine and re-scope the Finance function.    As the company continues into the next phase of significant global growth, the CFO will be tasked with ensuring the Finance function can continuously evolve and build out reliable forecasts and functional models.

Whilst the primary responsibility of the role will be to ensure the integrity and accuracy of all financial information there will also be a focus on how to scale which includes how to maximize the commercial opportunities for the business to achieve its financial goals.

Additionally, the role may also include components of client facing duties and involve sign-off for key contracts, overseeing commercial arrangements and managing commercial issues in lockstep with the Senior Management Team.

Summary of Requirements

The CFO will have the primary responsibility for all finance reporting to the Board as well as financial planning, management accounting, audit and leading the fiscal aspects of the company operations.

A key part of the role is to drive automation of business processes and optimization of the supporting information systems and financial controls. The development of a cohesive companywide set of financial and operational metrics will be a primary task and the ability to drive high performance is considered critical to the role.

Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential as this role with work in partnership with all members of the Senior Management Team.

The post-holder will be required to deputize for the CEO when necessary and will have primary responsibility for presenting the Financial metrics at quarterly Board meetings.

Role & Responsibilities

Due to our rapid growth in this fast-paced market, there is a profound need to bring someone on board who can take our organization to a successful exit. The ideal candidate will have the following key traits:

  • Expertise and proven leadership skills gained through a track record of operational and financial excellence in a software or SaaS technology companies.
  • Strong prior operational finance experience, preferably within both a start-up and at scale. Prior hands-on responsibility and accountability for the Legal, IT, G&A functions is highly desirable.
  • The ability to lead, coach and manage the UK and US based Finance teams – currently a headcount of 6.
  • In partnership with the Senior Management team, develop and recommend to the Board an annual operating plan and financial budget that supports POWWR’s long-term strategy
  • Take ownership for a full suite of Finance activities including statutory reporting, management reporting, budgeting, forecasting, working capital management, pricing, contracts, business transformation and process improvement.
  • Develop best practice FP&A disciplines and manage processes for financial forecasting, budgets and consolidation and reporting to the company
  • Develop appropriate lead and lag key performance indicators and reporting methodologies to monitor and drive the financial performance of the company and proactively use these KPIs to drive performance and drive the company WIGs.
  • Develop monthly and quarterly reports which summarize both financial data and critical operational metrics to give a rounded view of the business.
  • Undertake product and customer profitability reviews, develop pricing models and ad hoc reports as required on projects such as the financial justification of business expansion plans.
  • Liaison with the Revenue Operations team to ensure the sales performance and opportunity pipeline is being managed well and recorded accurately.
  • Develop a detailed knowledge of industry metrics, addressable market statistics and market trends.
  • Play a lead role in M&A activity whether that be due diligence for acquisitions, integration post acquisition or a sales process.
  • Ensure that effective internal controls are in place and ensure compliance with IFRS and applicable regulatory laws and rules for financial and tax reporting.
  • Ensure sound processes for identifying, assessing, and managing the principal risks of the company’s business are in place.
  • Assess and optimize internal systems and processes to ensure they are fit for purpose whilst continuously seeking to automate and streamline processes to drive efficiency, reduce risk and add value.
  • Assist and guide the preparation of the company’s financial statements.
  • Assist and guide the annual audit and the interim reviews with the company’s external auditors.

Skills & Experiences

  • As a minimum a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance and preferably with a recognised professional qualification.
  • Experience in a senior position within an international technology (software and services) company of comparable scale.
  • Strong financial operator – previous CFO experience is highly advantageous.
  • Demonstrable experience of rapid growth environments and the ability to revise financial models at pace.
  • Will demonstrate a strong and balanced skill set across key disciplines including financial control, FP&A, Audit and BI

Location and package

This role will be based is US based with a preference for East Coast location.  Remote working is in place with occasional travel to the Connecticut head office or other locations as required.

Package will consist of competitive base salary, equity and performance related bonus.
